Examiner News Desk | Srinagar:

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday said that drug trafficking and terrorism are closely interconnected in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that investigations have revealed links between narcotics smuggling networks and terror-related organisations operating in the region.

Addressing a programme under the drug-free Jammu and Kashmir campaign, Sinha said investigative agencies have found evidence suggesting the involvement of cross-border elements in facilitating the narcotics trade, which is allegedly being used to finance terrorism and related activities.

He said the proceeds generated from drug smuggling are being utilised for terror recruitment, procurement of weapons, and activities aimed at radicalisation in Jammu and Kashmir as well as other parts of the country.

The Lieutenant Governor said the administration remains committed to safeguarding the youth from the growing menace of drug abuse and is taking steps to counter attempts aimed at misleading young people and disrupting peace and development in the Union Territory.

Emphasising the need for a collective response, Sinha called upon all sections of society to join hands in combating drug abuse and strengthening preventive awareness among the youth.

He said coordinated efforts involving families, educational institutions, law enforcement agencies and civil society are essential to effectively tackle the drug menace and ensure a secure future for the younger generation.
