Kishtwar Police have arrested five persons, including two women, in connection with the alleged murder of a woman in the Marwah area of Kishtwar district, officials said on Monday.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar, Naresh Singh, a written complaint was lodged at Police Station Marwah on June 7 by Ghulam Ahmad, son of Ghulam Mohammad Magray and a resident of Pethgam Marwah. In his complaint, he alleged that his wife, Zaina Begum, was assaulted and beaten to death by several individuals from the same locality.
Acting promptly on the complaint, Police Station Marwah registered FIR No. 05/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated an investigation into the incident.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ghulam Haider Malik, Zahoor Ahmad Malik, Imtiyaz Ahmad Malik, Shahina Begum and Sara Begum, all residents of Pethgam Marwah.
Police said another accused, Muzaffar Ahmad Malik, is absconding and efforts are underway to apprehend him at the earliest.
A special team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Marwah conducted a swift operation and secured the arrests shortly after the case was registered.
Following medico-legal formalities and a postmortem examination, the body of the deceased was handed over to her family for the last rites.
SSP Naresh Singh said further investigation is in progress and all aspects of the case are being thoroughly examined. He reiterated the commitment of Kishtwar Police to ensuring justice and taking strict legal action against all those found involved in the crime.
