Agencies | Patna:
Popular educator Faisal Khan, widely known as Khan Sir, has found himself at the centre of a controversy following a violent clash on June 2 involving his coaching institute, Khan Global Studies (KGS), and a rival coaching centre in Patna.
The dispute escalated after allegations that security personnel associated with KGS opened fire during the confrontation. Subsequently, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Khan Sir under non-bailable sections, including charges related to attempted murder and violations of the Arms Act. While a Patna district court has granted him interim protection from arrest, any escalation of the case could have far-reaching implications for his coaching business and public profile.
Administrative Action and Risk of Closure
The local administration has signalled a strict approach towards coaching centres linked to law-and-order concerns. Following the incident, officials warned that educational institutions found functioning as centres of rivalry or unrest could face temporary sealing or closure.
Adding to the pressure, the Bihar Fire Service has reportedly issued a notice to KGS over alleged fire safety violations. Any adverse findings could expose the institute’s offline operations to further regulatory action.
Potential Disruption to Offline Classes
Khan Global Studies operates large physical coaching centres, particularly in Patna and Delhi, where Khan Sir’s personal teaching style and direct classroom engagement form a key part of the institute’s appeal.
Should legal proceedings intensify or require his prolonged absence, offline classes could face disruptions, potentially affecting thousands of enrolled students and the institute’s day-to-day operations.
Financial and Business Impact
Khan Sir’s education model is built around affordable coaching for students from modest economic backgrounds. Over the years, he has cultivated a large student base while maintaining operational independence, reportedly declining substantial investment offers from major edtech players.
An escalation of the criminal case could affect future expansion plans and strategic partnerships. It may also impact student enrolment, particularly if prolonged legal uncertainty influences public perception of the institution.
In addition, increased legal expenses could divert resources away from infrastructure development, technology upgrades and educational initiatives.
Digital Presence and Revenue Concerns
A significant portion of Khan Sir’s reach comes through his online platforms, particularly his widely followed YouTube channel, which serves as a major gateway for attracting students to both online and offline courses.
Any legal developments that result in reputational damage, platform restrictions or advertising-related challenges could affect digital engagement and revenue streams. However, no such action has been announced by any platform at this stage.
Multiple Legal Challenges
Apart from the Patna case, Khan Sir is also facing a ₹2-crore defamation suit in the Delhi High Court filed by TV Today Network and journalist Anjana Om Kashyap over separate remarks.
Simultaneously dealing with criminal proceedings and civil litigation could place additional pressure on management and operations, potentially diverting attention from academic and business activities.
Resilience Amid Uncertainty
Despite the controversy, Khan Sir has publicly expressed confidence in the strength of his institution and student community. He has stated that even if his coaching centres face closure, he would rebuild them through hard work and continued support from students.
For now, the future impact on Khan Global Studies will depend largely on the course of the investigation, judicial proceedings and any subsequent administrative actions.
