Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired a nearly four-hour high-level meeting with secretaries of all Central government ministries and departments, calling for greater inter-ministerial coordination, accelerated administrative reforms and a sharper focus on the tangible impact of government schemes on citizens.
The meeting, held at Seva Teerth, was attended by nearly 80 senior bureaucrats and served as a comprehensive review of the government’s governance priorities for the remainder of the financial year.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasised the need to dismantle departmental silos and adopt a whole-of-government approach to policymaking and implementation. He stressed that ministries should work in close coordination to ensure efficient delivery of public services and faster execution of development projects.
The discussions primarily focused on accelerating administrative deregulation to improve the ease of doing business and ease of living, while advancing the government’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat through policy reforms and institutional efficiency.
Modi also underlined the importance of leveraging the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan as a key platform for integrated planning, data-driven decision-making and improved coordination among ministries. He said the platform should be utilised to expedite decision-making and facilitate seamless implementation of cross-sectoral projects.
Secretaries from various ministries made presentations on key initiatives undertaken in their respective departments, highlighting measures aimed at reducing compliance burdens, simplifying administrative procedures and enhancing service delivery to citizens.
The review meeting also built upon the reform agenda discussed during the Council of Ministers’ meeting on June 21, with a continued emphasis on creating greater economic opportunities, particularly for the country’s youth.
Cabinet Secretary T.V. Somanathan and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister P.K. Mishra were among the senior officials who participated in the deliberations on addressing sector-specific challenges and improving administrative efficiency.
The meeting assumes significance as the Centre continues to pursue structural reforms and long-term policy initiatives aimed at achieving the goal of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047. The Prime Minister urged the bureaucracy to measure success not merely through policy implementation but by the visible improvement such initiatives bring to the lives of citizens.
