Member of Parliament Aga Ruhullah Mehdi on Saturday said his political engagements have consistently been focused on safeguarding the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and advocating for the restoration of their democratic rights.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to Devsar in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, Ruhullah said he had never been invited by the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) to attend the death anniversary of Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah.
“I have repeatedly said that I was never invited by the National Conference to attend Begum Sahiba’s death anniversary,” he said, adding that certain political activities were being carried out to serve BJP-related interests rather than public concerns.
The Srinagar MP said that whenever he travels to New Delhi or participates in political engagements, his primary objective is to press for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and seek justice and benefits for its people, rather than pursuing personal interests.
“My political engagements are centred on raising the issues of Jammu and Kashmir and ensuring that the people’s aspirations are represented,” he said.
Ruhullah also welcomed the recent remarks of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Molvi Mohammad Umar Farooq on the restoration of full statehood and the reinstatement of Articles 370 and 35A.
He said these issues formed the core of the promises and aspirations on which the people of Jammu and Kashmir had reposed their trust and continue to seek their fulfilment.
“The restoration of full statehood and Articles 370 and 35A remains among the key aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
