Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained more than 1,000 suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs) from across the Kashmir Valley following the killing of a police personnel in a terror attack in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said.
Quoting a senior official, a local news agency (KNO) reported that security forces, in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, launched extensive raids across the Valley in the aftermath of the attack.
The official said that more than 1,000 suspected OGWs have been taken into custody for questioning, while search operations have been intensified at several locations, particularly in Anantnag district, as part of efforts to trace those involved in the attack and prevent any further militant activity.
Head Constable Ashiq Hussain, who was deployed for Amarnath Yatra security duty, was shot dead by a terrorist in the Lal Chowk area of Anantnag at around 12:30 pm on Wednesday.
Following the attack, security forces launched a massive manhunt and imposed a tight security cordon across Anantnag town to track down the assailant. Search operations were continuing at the time of filing this report.
