All government and recognised private schools across Jammu and Kashmir will reopen on Monday, July 27, as scheduled, with the government deciding against any further extension of the summer vacation following a significant improvement in weather conditions.
A senior official in the School Education Department confirmed that the summer break would not be extended and that all educational institutions across the Union Territory would resume academic activities from Monday.
The decision was also confirmed by an official in the office of Education Minister Sakina Itoo, who said schools across Jammu and Kashmir would reopen as planned.
The government had initially announced summer vacations for all schools in the Kashmir Division and the winter zones of the Jammu Division from July 6 to July 19.
On July 18, the vacation was extended until July 22 due to the prevailing heatwave and an adverse weather forecast. At the time, Education Minister Sakina Itoo said the extension was made to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
Subsequently, in view of heavy rainfall, flash flood warnings and inclement weather, the government further extended the summer vacation until July 26 for schools in the Kashmir Division and the winter zones of the Jammu Division. Schools in the Jammu Division were also directed to remain closed until July 26.
The extension followed a forecast by the Meteorological Department warning of heavy rainfall and the possibility of flash floods between July 20 and July 23, prompting the administration to adopt precautionary measures.
While announcing the last extension, the Education Minister had stated that schools would reopen on Monday, July 27. Officials have now reaffirmed that the decision remains unchanged, citing improved weather conditions across the region.
Officials said all educational institutions have been instructed to resume normal academic activities from Monday.
