The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday distanced itself from objectionable slogans allegedly raised by some participants during a rally at Housing Colony, Anantnag, asserting that the remarks neither reflected the party’s ideology nor the purpose of the event.
In a statement issued on the directions of BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul, party spokesperson Altaf Thakur said the BJP does not endorse defamatory or derogatory remarks against any individual and remains committed to upholding the dignity and honour of women.
“Our party has always upheld the dignity and honour of women. The BJP has consistently worked towards women’s empowerment, and the historic decision to provide 33 per cent reservation for women reflects that commitment,” Thakur said.
He clarified that the slogans allegedly raised by a few individuals during the rally were their personal expressions and should not be construed as the official position of the BJP.
“Some individuals may have raised slogans based on their personal thinking or emotions, but those slogans do not represent the BJP’s official stand or the views of the leaders who led the rally. The party does not endorse any defamatory or derogatory remarks against anyone,” he said.
Reiterating the party’s commitment to political decorum, Thakur said the BJP believes in issue-based politics and that its public conduct is guided by democratic principles and constitutional values.
He further said the party remains committed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of women’s empowerment, citing the Women’s Reservation Act, which provides 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies, as a significant step towards enhancing women’s participation in public life.
The clarification comes after videos circulated on social media purportedly showed some participants at the Anantnag rally raising objectionable slogans. The BJP maintained that such remarks were made in an individual capacity and should not be attributed to the party as an organisation.
The party also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the social, political and economic empowerment of women and said it would continue to support initiatives aimed at strengthening their participation and leadership in public life.
