Jammu and Kashmir Congress president Tariq Ahmad Karra on Thursday said the party would not accept ministerial positions in the Union Territory government until full statehood is restored.
Addressing a gathering during a programme in Reasi, Karra reiterated that restoration of statehood has remained a central demand of the Congress and that the party would continue to maintain this position until Jammu and Kashmir regains its full statehood.
His remarks come amid ongoing discussions over the possibility of the Congress joining the National Conference-led government in Jammu and Kashmir.
Karra made it clear that the Congress’s position on statehood remains unchanged, indicating that the party would not accept ministerial office in the UT administration unless Jammu and Kashmir is restored to full statehood.
The statement effectively sets out the Congress’s position on participation in the Council of Ministers, keeping restoration of statehood as a key condition for the party’s entry into the government.
