Police arrested three alleged drug peddlers, including a woman, in two separate operations in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday and recovered 190.5 grams of heroin-like substance, officials said.
In the first operation, police intercepted a woman during naka checking at Upper Market Qazigund near Town Hall after her movements were found suspicious. During a search of her bag, police recovered 20.5 grams of heroin-like substance, allegedly concealed in a black polythene envelope.
The woman was identified as Aqsa Bashir, a resident of Hardpora Akinpora in Anantnag.
Police registered FIR No. 221/2026 under Sections 8 and 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Qazigund and initiated an investigation.
In a separate operation, personnel from Police Post Navyug Tunnel established a naka near the tunnel’s North Portal and intercepted a silver-coloured Swift Dzire (JK09E-9019).
According to police, 170 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from the vehicle’s two occupants, identified as Imran Mir, son of Mohd Akram Mir, and Muhbat Dar, son of Maqsood Ahmed Dar. Both are residents of Karnah in Kupwara.
The two men were arrested and FIR No. 222/2026 was registered at Police Station Qazigund under Sections 8, 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
Police said the investigation in the case would focus on tracing the source of the suspected contraband and identifying other individuals who may be linked to the alleged drug network.
SSP Kulgam said police would continue its campaign against drug trafficking and take legal action against those found involved in such activities.
He also appealed to the public to share information regarding drug trafficking with the police, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
