PDP legislator Waheed Ur Rehman Parra raised concerns in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly over frequent stoppages and restrictions faced by commuters travelling on the national highway in south Kashmir.
Speaking during the ongoing autumn session, Parra said repeated stoppages were causing inconvenience to ordinary commuters and creating a sense of discrimination among the public.
“Travelling on the national highway in south Kashmir gives a sense of discrimination to common people. The government should take up the matter with the Unified High Command,” he said.
Parra claimed that commuters were being stopped on a daily basis, sometimes for 10 to 15 minutes, leading to delays and inconvenience for people travelling along the highway.
He said security measures following an incident should be implemented in a manner that does not cause unnecessary hardship to the general public.
“Just one attack cannot give a sense of discrimination and humiliate the common people of Kashmir,” the PDP MLA said.
Parra urged the government to raise the issue with the Unified Headquarters and examine whether security-related traffic restrictions could be managed in a way that maintains security while minimising disruption to civilian movement.
His remarks came as the Assembly continued discussions on issues concerning public services, commuter inconvenience and security arrangements during the autumn session.
