Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday called for greater investment in Global Capability Centres (GCCs), saying the Union Territory’s skilled workforce, established educational institutions, competitive operating costs and improving connectivity offered significant opportunities for technology-driven businesses and employment generation.

The Chief Minister was addressing the J&K Global Capability Centres Summit 2026 virtually. The two-day event is being held at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu.

Organised by IIM Jammu in partnership with the Jammu and Kashmir Government and the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), the summit has brought together more than 300 global industry leaders, policymakers and academics to explore ways to develop the region into a hub for technology and knowledge-based industries.

Abdullah highlighted the potential of Jammu and Kashmir’s educated young population and academic institutions to meet the requirements of global enterprises. He said competitive operating costs, improved connectivity and quality of life could further strengthen the region’s appeal as an investment destination while helping retain skilled professionals.

He observed that Global Capability Centres could connect local talent with international opportunities, provide exposure to advanced technologies and specialised skills, and create avenues for high-quality employment. Such investments, he said, could also contribute to sustained economic growth in the Union Territory.

The Chief Minister assured prospective investors of the government’s support, including single-window facilitation and a policy framework aimed at encouraging investment and building a sustainable GCC ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.

The summit seeks to bring industry stakeholders and policymakers onto a common platform to assess investment opportunities and explore strategies for expanding technology-based services and knowledge-driven economic activity in the region.
