National Conference (NC) MLA from Gurez, Nazir Ahmad Khan (Gurezi), on Friday dismissed speculation about the emergence of a separate faction within the party, saying the recent meeting of legislators with the leadership was aimed at discussing their concerns and seeking redressal.
Khan said the legislators had met NC president Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to raise various political and organisational issues requiring the leadership’s attention.
He maintained that the gathering was part of their ongoing engagement with the party leadership and should not be interpreted as an attempt to establish a separate political group.
“We approach our party leadership whenever we have issues to raise. A few days ago, when we assembled at one place, it was projected in the media as if a separate party had emerged from the National Conference. No new party has been formed,” Khan said.
He added that the leadership had assured the legislators that some of their concerns would be addressed promptly, while the remaining issues would be taken up in a phased manner.
