Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday inaugurated a new industrial unit of Eveready Industries India Limited in Samba, set up with an investment of ₹200 crore, marking a significant step in Jammu and Kashmir’s industrial growth trajectory.

The state-of-the-art facility is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities, support ancillary industries, and boost local suppliers and service providers. It will also contribute to skill development in the region, with a special focus on creating opportunities for women.

Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor said the project reflects growing investor confidence and a rapidly evolving industrial ecosystem in the Union Territory. He noted that regions such as Samba, Kathua, Jammu, and parts of Kashmir are witnessing unprecedented industrial momentum, signalling a transformative phase for the local economy.

Highlighting investment trends, he said Jammu and Kashmir attracted ₹5,824 crore in investments in FY 2025–26—more than 13 times the average recorded before 2021. Investment inflows have steadily increased, rising from ₹2,153 crore in FY 2022–23 to ₹3,389 crore in FY 2023–24 and ₹4,145 crore in FY 2024–25. Additionally, 312 industrial units worth ₹7,864 crore are at advanced stages and are expected to become operational in FY 2026–27.

The Lieutenant Governor also pointed to a sharp rise in the startup ecosystem, with the number of startups growing from 69 in 2020 to 1,305 in FY 2025–26, reflecting expanding entrepreneurship and employment opportunities.

The Eveready plant, a greenfield facility, will have an annual peak production capacity of approximately 360 million alkaline batteries, with an installed capacity of 456 million units, strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities and meeting increasing demand for power solutions.

Company officials said the unit is expected to generate around 500 direct and indirect jobs at full capacity and contribute to the broader vision of self-reliance in manufacturing.

Senior officials, industry stakeholders, and company representatives were present at the inauguration ceremony.
