A year after Operation Sindoor, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi issued a stern warning to Pakistan over continued cross-border terrorism targeting India, saying Islamabad must decide “whether it wants to be part of geography or history.”

Speaking on Saturday, General Dwivedi said Pakistan would face serious consequences if it continued to shelter and support terrorist groups operating against India.

“If Pakistan continues to harbour terrorists and operate against India, then they have to decide whether they want to be part of geography or history or not,” the Army Chief said while responding to a question on how the Indian Army would react if circumstances similar to those leading to Operation Sindoor arose again.

The remarks are being viewed as one of the strongest public military warnings issued since Operation Sindoor, which was launched in response to the April 22, 2025 terror attack in Pahalgam.

General Dwivedi reiterated India’s firm stance against what he described as Pakistan-backed terrorism and indicated that the Indian armed forces would not hesitate to respond decisively to future provocations.

This is not the first time the Army Chief has delivered such a warning. In October last year, he had stated that the Indian armed forces would not exercise the same level of restraint seen during “Operation Sindoor 1.0” if Pakistan continued to support terror activities against India.

His earlier remarks had come amid rising tensions following concerns raised by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh over Pakistan’s military infrastructure near the Sir Creek region along the Gujarat-Sindh border. Singh had accused Pakistan of perpetuating border disputes and warned that any “misadventure” would invite a strong Indian response.

What Was Operation Sindoor?

Operation Sindoor was launched by India on May 7, 2025, following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed several lives.

The operation targeted terrorist infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). According to official statements, nine terror-linked sites were struck during the initial phase of the operation, while Pakistani military installations were not targeted.

The military confrontation between the two countries later eased following a ceasefire understanding reached on May 10, 2025.
