Examiner Bureau | Srinagar:

Former Baramulla District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson Safina Baig on Wednesday joined the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) during a function held at the party headquarters, Nawa-e-Subh, in Srinagar.

She was formally welcomed into the party by NC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the presence of senior party leaders.

Safina Baig has previously served as the Chairperson of the District Development Council, Baramulla, and as Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Haj Committee. A practising advocate, she also contested the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections as an Independent candidate from the Wagoora-Kreeri Assembly constituency in Baramulla district.

She is the wife of veteran politician and former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig.

Her induction is being viewed as a significant political boost for the National Conference, particularly in North Kashmir, where her entry is expected to strengthen the party’s organisational base and outreach ahead of its future political engagements.
