Northern Railway has extended the cancellation of three passenger train services operating on the Banihal–Budgam–Baramulla section until August 14, 2026, as scheduled track maintenance and rail safety works continue in the Kashmir Valley.
According to a fresh notification issued by the Office of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Jammu, the suspended train services will remain cancelled from July 31 to August 14 (JCO) to facilitate pre-BCM high-temperature destressing of Long Welded Rails (LWR) on the Banihal–Baramulla section.
The train services whose cancellation has been extended are:
- Train No. 74615: Banihal–Baramulla
- Train No. 74632: Baramulla–Budgam
- Train No. 74628: Budgam–Banihal
The extension will also affect the 10:50 a.m. Banihal–Baramulla passenger service, a key train relied upon by daily commuters, students, government employees and office-goers travelling between Banihal and various stations across the Kashmir Valley.
Railway officials said the decision has been taken to ensure the timely completion of the planned track maintenance programme and high-temperature rail destressing works, which are essential for maintaining track stability and ensuring the safe movement of trains, particularly during the summer months.
The maintenance exercise is part of Northern Railway’s ongoing efforts to enhance operational safety, improve track reliability and minimise the risk of rail-related incidents on the strategically important Banihal–Baramulla rail corridor.
Passengers have been advised to make alternative travel arrangements during the suspension period and verify the latest train schedules through official railway channels before undertaking their journey.
