Prof Anurag Misra Appointed Director of NIT Srinagar After Two-Year Vacancy

IIT Jammu civil engineering professor to head the institute for a five-year term; appointment made by the President of India in her capacity as Visitor of the NITs.

The Ministry of Education has appointed Professor Anurag Misra of the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu as the new Director of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, ending a wait of more than two years for the appointment of a regular head for the institute.

The Department of Higher Education issued the appointment order on July 29, stating that the appointment was made by the President of India in her capacity as the Visitor of the National Institutes of Technology.

According to the order, Prof Misra will serve a five-year term from the date he assumes office or until he attains the age of 70, whichever is earlier.

The Ministry has directed the Director of IIT Jammu to relieve Prof Misra at the earliest to enable him to assume charge at NIT Srinagar. It has also instructed NIT Srinagar Director-in-Charge Prof Binod Kanaujia to hand over charge to the newly appointed Director.

Prof Misra is currently a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Jammu and has previously served as the institute’s Dean of Infrastructure Planning and Management. He earned his PhD in Concrete Repairs from Queen’s University Belfast, United Kingdom, and brings more than three decades of experience in academia, research and the infrastructure industry.

Over the course of his career, he has served as Chief Executive Officer in the infrastructure sector, Professor and Head of the Department of Structural Engineering at Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur, and has held visiting academic appointments in the United Kingdom.

His research interests include sustainable construction materials, low-carbon cements, non-destructive testing of concrete, and concrete durability.
