The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has suspended nine office bearers of its Anantnag district unit and removed them from all organisational responsibilities over their alleged involvement in an unauthorised Tiranga rally held in the district on August 5.
The disciplinary action was announced through an office order issued by BJP Anantnag District President Rakesh Koul, who said the rally at Housing Colony, Khanabal, was organised without the approval of either the district party unit or the District Administration.
The party also cited allegations that objectionable and derogatory remarks targeting women were made during the event, describing the conduct as unacceptable and inconsistent with the BJP’s values, organisational discipline and principles.
According to the order, the decision was taken after consultations with BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul, State General Secretary Anwar Khan, State spokesperson and Anantnag Prabhari Altaf Thakur, and members of the BJP District Core Committee.
The suspended office bearers are District General Secretary Nisar Ahmad Bhat (Wangam, Shangus), District Secretary Khursheed Ahmad Sofi (Hassanpora, Bijbehara), District Secretary and former District Vice President Aabida Rafiq (Achabal), Shangus Constituency President Irshad Ahmad Malik (Gopalpora, Mattan), Mohd Maqbool Ganie (Achabal), Pahalgam Constituency President Waheed Ahmad Itoo (Hassanoor, Aishmuqam), District Secretary Nisar Ahmad Hakeem (Dehwatoo, Pahalgam), District Secretary, Kisan Morcha, Feroz Ahmad Hajam (Kherchi, Larnoo), and District Secretary, Mahila Morcha, Sabrooza Akhter (Thajiwara).
The order stated that the primary membership of all nine leaders has also been suspended pending the outcome of a detailed inquiry into the incident.
Meanwhile, the BJP district unit clarified that Alveer Ahmad Dar of Batengoo, Anantnag, and Fancy Akhter of Hangulgund, Kokernag, are not associated with the Anantnag district unit of the party and do not hold any organisational post or responsibility.
The action comes amid the party’s efforts to enforce organisational discipline and distance itself from the controversy surrounding the August 5 rally.
