Examiner Bureau | Srinagar:

The Jammu and Kashmir Finance Department has suspended two officials of the District Treasury Bandipora after an inspection found that a number of bills had allegedly been retained beyond the permissible period, resulting in unauthorised delays in processing final payments.

According to an order issued by Director General, Accounts and Treasuries, Ahtisham Ul Haq, Accountant, and Mohammad Sofi, Accounts Assistant, were placed under suspension following an inspection of the treasury conducted on August 22.

The inspection reportedly found that several bills had not been processed for final payment and had remained pending in the treasury beyond the prescribed time limit.

The department observed that the retention of the bills had resulted in unauthorised delays in the release of final payments, prompting action against the two officials.

During the period of suspension, both officials will remain attached to the Office of the Director, Accounts and Treasuries, Kashmir, as per the order.

They will be entitled to subsistence allowance in accordance with the applicable service rules for the duration of their suspension.

The departmental action comes amid the Finance Department’s emphasis on timely processing and clearance of government bills and strengthening accountability within the treasury system.
