Two persons were killed and three others injured in a road accident in the Sarthal area of Bani tehsil in Kathua district on Friday.
Quoting an official, that the accident occurred in Sarthal when a vehicle carrying five persons met with an accident.
Two occupants were killed in the incident, while the three injured were shifted to Bani Hospital for treatment. Their condition was not immediately known.
Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for the Department of Atomic Energy Jitendra Singh said he spoke to Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma after receiving a phone call from Bani MLA Dalip Singh Parihar, who informed him about the accident.
In a post on X, Singh said he had spoken to the DC after being informed about the road accident at Sarthal.
He said that three of the five passengers travelling in the vehicle sustained injuries and were shifted to Bani Hospital, while two others unfortunately lost their lives.
Singh said appropriate medical assistance was being provided to the injured and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. He added that his office remained in touch with the district administration.
The deceased and injured are likely to be residents of Bhaderwah in Doda district, while their identities and further details are awaited.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated necessary proceedings.
