One person has been killed and 11 others injured in an attack on Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid International Airport, according to reports, hours after Houthi-affiliated media reported an air strike on an airport in Yemen’s rebel-held capital, Sanaa.

The developments come amid escalating regional tensions, with Iran expressing concern over the situation in the Arabian Peninsula and offering to facilitate dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi rebels.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran was “deeply concerned about developments in the Arabian Peninsula”, warning that the escalation “will only benefit the Israeli regime”.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, and offered to help facilitate dialogue between Riyadh and the Houthis in an effort to ease tensions.

Separately, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that a third oil supertanker had struck a naval mine in the Strait of Hormuz within the past 24 hours, signalling further risks to maritime security in the strategically important waterway.

The reported airport attack and the incident in the Strait of Hormuz add to concerns over the widening regional confrontation, as diplomatic efforts to contain the escalation continue.
