Agencies | Srinagar:
Abbas Araghchi on Friday confirmed that he will undertake a regional visit to Pakistan, Oman and Russia, as diplomatic efforts continue amid stalled negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
The visit comes at a time when talks between Iran and the United States remain deadlocked, with uncertainty persisting over Tehran’s participation in a potential next round of negotiations aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, currently under a fragile ceasefire.
Islamabad has been preparing to host a second round of talks, though it remains unclear whether Araghchi or his delegation will engage directly with US officials during the visit.
In a post on X, Araghchi said he was embarking on a “timely tour” of Islamabad, Muscat and Moscow to coordinate with regional partners on bilateral issues and consult on evolving developments. He emphasised that neighbouring countries remain a priority in Iran’s foreign policy approach.
Iran’s official news agency Islamic Republic News Agency reported that the tour would begin on Friday evening, focusing on bilateral consultations and discussions on the regional situation, including the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel.
Pakistan has emerged as a key intermediary in efforts to ease tensions between Tehran and Washington. However, the first round of talks held earlier this month failed to yield a breakthrough, and Iran has yet to confirm participation in further dialogue.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened in Islamabad, with checkpoints established and movement restricted in high-security zones where any potential talks may take place. It also remains uncertain whether senior US officials, including JD Vance, will travel to Pakistan for the proposed negotiations.
