Examiner Bureau | Doda:

The administration on Sunday imposed restrictions on unauthorised assemblies and protests in parts of Doda town in Jammu and Kashmir for a period of two months under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), citing concerns over potential disturbance to public order.

The decision comes amid expectations of large public gatherings linked to recent events involving AAP MLA Mehraj Malik in his native district.

According to an order issued by District Magistrate Krishan Lal, authorities received inputs suggesting that certain groups were planning demonstrations and mobilising crowds, which could lead to untoward incidents.

“In exercise of powers vested in me, a complete ban is hereby imposed on any unauthorised gathering of five or more persons and on organising protests or dharnas at public places,” the order stated.

The restrictions apply to key locations including Clock Tower Chowk, Dessa Road up to Akramabad, the Sports Stadium and areas within a 100-metre radius of the stadium, as well as the stretch from Clock Tower to the Old Bus Stand. However, events that have already received official permission will remain exempt.

The administration said such gatherings could disrupt normal movement, cause inconvenience to commuters and pose a threat to public safety.

Officials warned that violators of the order will face action under Section 223 of the BNSS.
