Examiner Bureau | Samba:

Four police personnel, including a Station House Officer (SHO), have been suspended in Samba district over allegations of dereliction of duty and allegedly facilitating a compromise in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, officials said.

According to an order issued by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Samba Anuj Kumar, the suspended officials include the SHO of Ramgarh Police Station, a probationary Sub-Inspector (PSI), and two Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs).

The action follows allegations that the officials failed to discharge their duties appropriately while handling a sensitive case registered under the POCSO Act, a legislation designed to protect children from sexual offences and ensure strict legal procedures in such matters.

To ascertain the facts and fix accountability, the SSP has also ordered a departmental inquiry into the conduct of the suspended personnel and the circumstances surrounding the handling of the case.

Officials said the inquiry will examine whether any procedural lapses or violations occurred and determine individual responsibility based on the findings.

Meanwhile, as part of the administrative reshuffle following the disciplinary action, Inspector Ajay Singh Chib has been appointed as the new SHO of Ramgarh Police Station. In addition, a Special Police Officer (SPO) has been transferred to Goran Police Chowki.

The police department has not disclosed further details regarding the case, citing the ongoing inquiry. However, officials said appropriate action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.

The suspension of the officers underscores the department’s stated commitment to ensuring accountability and adherence to legal procedures, particularly in cases involving crimes against children.
