2019-batch officer serving as Assistant Director, Handicrafts and Handloom, remembered as the first JKAS officer from Srinagar’s Natipora area.

Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officer Mohammad Younis Mir, a 2019-batch Junior Scale officer, passed away on Friday following a brief illness, local sources said.

At the time of his demise, Mir was serving as Assistant Director, Handicrafts and Handloom in the Industries and Commerce Department. Prior to this posting, he served as State Taxes Officer (Enforcement), Central Kashmir. In July 2025, he was placed at the disposal of the Industries and Commerce Department.

During his administrative career, Mir also held the position of District Audit Officer for Cooperative Societies in Srinagar. His service record was maintained under the General Administration Department as part of the Junior Scale JKAS cadre.

Members of the local community noted that Mir was the first JKAS officer from the Natipora area of Srinagar, a distinction that earned him widespread respect and recognition.

His Nimaz-e-Janazah will be offered at 9:30 a.m. at Jinazgah, Natipora, where family members, colleagues, and well-wishers are expected to gather to pay their last respects.
