Examiner Bureau | Kathua:
A 25-year-old man from Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir is under investigation after he was allegedly found portraying himself as an employee of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and carrying a purported identity card whose authenticity is under scrutiny.
According to officials, the matter came to light during routine information gathering, when authorities received inputs that Ankush Sharma, son of Ravi Sharma and a resident of Ward No. 06 in Kathua, was allegedly representing himself as an Intelligence Bureau official.
Officials said Sharma, who is reportedly a Class 12 pass and assists his father at a tea stall in Kathua’s Sabzi Mandi area, was found carrying and displaying an alleged IB identity card.
“The individual was reportedly carrying and displaying an identity card purportedly issued by the Intelligence Bureau. The authenticity of the document has been questioned and is currently being verified,” an official said.
Following the receipt of the information, senior Intelligence Bureau officers took cognisance of the matter and questioned Sharma regarding his claims and the identity card in his possession.
“After a preliminary inquiry, the individual was taken to JIC Nagri for further verification and investigation to establish the facts surrounding the case and determine the authenticity of the purported identity card,” the official added.
Authorities said the investigation remains at a preliminary stage and no definitive conclusion has been reached regarding either the authenticity of the identity card or the commission of any offence.
“The inquiry is underway, and further action, if any, will be taken based on the findings of the investigation,” the official said.
Officials emphasised that the verification process is ongoing and that conclusions will be drawn only after the inquiry is completed.
