A cloudburst struck the Chatroo area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district in the early hours of Saturday, washing away several vehicles, damaging property, and prompting the closure of the Chatroo–Kishtwar National Highway, officials said.

The cloudburst occurred at around 2:30 a.m., unleashing a sudden surge of water, mud, and debris that inundated parts of the area. Several vehicles were reportedly swept away in the flash flood, while multiple properties sustained damage.

Officials said the full extent of the destruction is yet to be determined, with assessment teams conducting surveys to evaluate losses.

According to officials, no fatalities or injuries had been reported at the time of filing this report.

As a precautionary measure, authorities have closed the Chatroo–Kishtwar National Highway to vehicular traffic. Officials are closely monitoring the situation, while restoration efforts and further updates are awaited.
