Examiner Bureau | Baramulla:

Police in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have arrested a suspect and recovered around 100 kg of stolen copper sheets in connection with a theft reported in Kreeri, officials said on Friday.

The case was registered at Police Station Kreeri following a complaint by Tariq Ahmad Zargar, a resident of Kreeri, who reported that approximately 100 kg of copper sheets had been stolen from his residential premises during the intervening night of October 7 and 8, 2026.

According to police, investigators analysed technical inputs and gathered information from local sources, which helped them identify suspects in the case.

During questioning, the accused, identified as Muzamil Ahmad Gojree, son of Gh. Mohammad Gojree and a resident of Tilgam Bala, allegedly admitted his involvement in the theft, police said.

Investigators said the accused allegedly arrived at the complainant’s premises on a scooty and took away two jute bags containing around 50 kg of copper sheets each. He allegedly transported the material on the two-wheeler and concealed it in an orchard beneath a pile of wooden logs.

Acting on the information obtained during the investigation, a police team searched the identified location and recovered approximately 100 kg of copper sheets from beneath the logs.

The recovered material has been seized in accordance with legal procedures and taken into possession as case property, officials said.

Police said the recovery had provided corroborative evidence in the case. Further investigation is under way to establish the sequence of events, ascertain whether other persons were involved and collect additional technical, documentary and forensic evidence.

The accused’s alleged involvement remains subject to the ongoing investigation and due legal process.
