Examiner Bureau | Jammu:
In a strong and decisive push against drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday announced sweeping punitive measures, including confiscation of properties and cancellation of key identification documents of those involved in the narcotics trade.
Addressing a gathering after leading a padyatra from M.A. Stadium to Parade Ground in Jammu, marking the launch of a 100-day intensive anti-drug campaign, the Lieutenant Governor said that cross-border smuggling is being used to destabilize communities and threaten the future of the region.
“Our neighbour is using cross-border drug trafficking to poison our society. This must stop, and it will stop,” he asserted, adding that the full force of the law will now be directed at dismantling such networks.
Under newly issued Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs), the administration will revoke passports, Aadhaar cards, driving licences, and arms licences of individuals involved in drug trafficking. Additionally, properties—both movable and immovable—will be attached under the NDPS Act, bank accounts frozen, and financial investigations initiated. Authorities will also issue Look Out Circulars against absconders.
Reiterating a zero-tolerance policy, Sinha warned that drug smugglers will face swift and uncompromising action, with ringleaders being prosecuted and their networks dismantled without delay.
Describing drug abuse as one of the gravest challenges facing Jammu and Kashmir, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized the need for a united societal response. He called upon panchayats, mohalla committees, chowkidars, lambardars, and local surveillance groups to strengthen grassroots intelligence and support enforcement agencies.
Highlighting the importance of public participation, he said the three-month-long ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyan’ aims to transform awareness into collective responsibility. “Our strength lies in unity. Together, we will overcome this menace and secure a healthier future for our youth,” he added.
