A 19-year-old man has been arrested in Maharashtra’s Amravati district for allegedly exploiting minor girls, recording obscene videos, and using them for blackmail and coercion. The accused, identified as Ayan Ahmed Tanveer Ahmed, also known as Mohammad Ayaz, is a resident of Paratwada.
The arrest was made following a complaint by BJP MP Anil Bonde. The accused was produced before a court and initially remanded to seven days of police custody, which has now been extended till April 21.
According to police officials, the accused allegedly targeted girls through social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Snapchat. He is suspected of gaining their trust, luring them into relationships, and in some cases taking victims to cities like Mumbai and Pune. Investigators say he secretly recorded obscene videos without consent and later used them to blackmail the victims, allegedly forcing some into exploitation.
Authorities suspect that over 350 such videos may be involved, with preliminary claims indicating that nearly 180 girls could have been targeted.
Investigation Underway
Police have seized the accused’s mobile phone and other electronic devices, which are currently being examined by forensic experts to retrieve deleted data. Cyber Cell teams are also analysing videos that have surfaced online. Officials are probing whether the accused operated alone or was part of a larger organised network.
Victims and Public Response
So far, seven victims have been officially identified, though authorities believe more may come forward as the investigation progresses. The case came to light after objectionable videos began circulating on social media, triggering widespread outrage.
Protests have been reported in Paratwada and Achalpur, with residents demanding strict action against the accused. Police have appealed to victims to come forward, assuring confidentiality and full support.
The case has also taken a political turn, with allegations of links to the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen led by Asaduddin Owaisi. While some BJP leaders have raised questions over alleged connections, a local AIMIM representative has stated that the accused is no longer associated with the party.
Leaders across the spectrum have called for a comprehensive probe, including the possibility of a Special Investigation Team, as police continue to analyse digital evidence and record statements.
