Examiner News Desk | Srinagar:
Police on Monday said that misleading and false information is being circulated on social media regarding the alleged damage or desecration of copies of the Holy Quran in certain parts of Srinagar city.
In an official clarification, Srinagar Police stated that no such incident has taken place on the ground and described the claims being circulated online as “completely baseless and unverified.”
The police cautioned that the circulation and amplification of false narratives, rumours, and unverified content could create unnecessary panic, disturb public order, and adversely affect communal harmony.
Authorities urged media organisations, social media users, and the general public to act responsibly and refrain from sharing or forwarding any unverified information on electronic or social media platforms.
Srinagar Police further reiterated that strict legal action would be initiated against any individual or entity found involved in spreading misinformation, fake news, or rumours under relevant provisions of law.
The police also appealed to the public to cooperate with the authorities in maintaining peace, public order, and communal harmony across the district.
