Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V K Birdi, on Thursday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess preparedness and finalize security arrangements for the smooth, fair, and transparent conduct of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination. The meeting also reviewed security, traffic management, and public facilitation measures for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026.
The meeting was attended by the IGP Traffic, all Range Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) of Kashmir Zone, DIG Traffic, SSP PCR Kashmir, Staff Officer to IGP Kashmir, all District Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) of Kashmir Zone, and other senior officers.
During the meeting, IGP Kashmir emphasized strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and directed field officers to implement comprehensive security arrangements at all examination centres.
He instructed officers to ensure adequate police deployment, with particular focus on access control, crowd management, and maintenance of law and order. Strict frisking and identity verification of candidates at entry points, in coordination with examination authorities, were also ordered.
The IGP further directed officers to ensure the secure transportation, escort, and handling of confidential examination materials while maintaining close coordination with the civil administration and other concerned agencies.
Reviewing traffic arrangements for the examination, Birdi stressed the need to facilitate the smooth movement of candidates and prevent congestion around examination centres. He urged officers to maintain professional conduct, adopt a public-friendly approach, and ensure seamless coordination among all stakeholders to guarantee a secure and transparent examination process.
Regarding SANJY-2026, the IGP underscored the importance of strict compliance with prescribed SOPs and directed all security agencies to work in close coordination to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
He instructed all District SSPs to personally supervise security arrangements and ensure foolproof security for Yatra convoys through effective deployment and real-time monitoring.
While reviewing traffic management plans for the pilgrimage, Birdi directed the strict enforcement of convoy movement schedules and prescribed cut-off timings to facilitate the safe passage of pilgrims. Field officers were asked to implement convoy regulations in a coordinated and public-friendly manner.
The meeting concluded with the IGP directing all officers to maintain heightened vigilance, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and effectively implement security and traffic measures to ensure the successful conduct of both the NEET UG 2026 re-examination and SANJY-2026 while minimizing inconvenience to the public.
