A massive landslide has caused extensive damage in Sarouti Jabran village in the Mendhar subdivision of Poonch district, where a school building and several houses have already collapsed, while widening cracks continue to appear in many of the remaining structures, raising fears of further devastation.

According to local residents, the land had been shifting gradually over the past several days, but the situation has deteriorated significantly as the ground continues to slide, posing a serious threat to the entire settlement.

Residents fear that more houses could collapse if the landslide continues, leaving families living in constant fear and uncertainty. The continuous movement of the land has intensified concerns over the safety of those still residing in the affected area.

The affected families have appealed to the government and district administration to conduct an immediate assessment of the situation and relocate residents to safer locations to avert any loss of life.

They have also urged political leaders and public representatives from Mendhar to visit the village and extend all possible assistance to the affected families during the crisis.

The residents have further demanded that the administration depute a team of geological and disaster management experts on an urgent basis to carry out a detailed assessment of the landslide-affected area and make immediate arrangements for the safe relocation of the vulnerable population.
