Examiner Bureau | Srinagar:

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday paid tributes to the July 13, 1931 martyrs while alleging that he had once again been placed under house arrest and criticising the security restrictions imposed around Srinagar’s Jama Masjid and the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Naqshband Sahib.

In a post on X, Mirwaiz described the July 13 martyrs as pioneers of the people’s struggle for justice, dignity and human rights, saying their sacrifices laid the foundation for a movement that continues to inspire many.

He alleged that people across Jammu and Kashmir were prevented from offering fatiha and paying homage at the Martyrs’ Graveyard, claiming that all roads leading to Mazar-e-Shuhada at Naqshband Sahib had been sealed with barricades. He also alleged that restrictions had been imposed around the historic Jama Masjid in Srinagar.

Mirwaiz further claimed that he had been placed under house arrest, preventing him from visiting the graveyard to offer prayers.

“Graveyards may be sealed, roads blocked and people confined, the martyrs live in our hearts and our collective memory for all times,” he said in his post.

Offering prayers for the July 13 martyrs and all those who lost their lives in Jammu and Kashmir, Mirwaiz prayed that they be granted the highest place in Jannah and concluded his message by paying homage to the martyrs of Kashmir.

The remarks came amid heightened security across Srinagar, where authorities imposed restrictions and barricaded several areas to prevent gatherings at the Martyrs’ Graveyard on the anniversary of the July 13, 1931 killings.
