National Conference Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad escaped unhurt after his official vehicle was caught in a landslide on the Jammu–Poonch highway on Wednesday while he was en route to inspect areas affected by recent heavy rainfall and flash floods.
According to reports, a landslide struck a stretch of the highway, leaving the MP’s vehicle stranded. Mian Altaf safely exited the vehicle, and no injuries were reported in the incident.
Despite the disruption, the MP continued his journey on foot to reach the flood-affected areas, where he reviewed the ground situation and interacted with affected residents.
Mian Altaf was travelling to assess the impact of the recent spell of heavy rainfall, which has triggered flash floods and caused damage to infrastructure and property in several parts of the region.
Meanwhile, officials said intermittent landslides continue to pose a threat along the Jammu–Poonch highway due to persistent rainfall. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged commuters to exercise caution while travelling on the route.
