Examiner Bureau | Srinagar:

The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a chargesheet against 10 persons, including seven officials of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), in connection with alleged illegal and unauthorised construction in Ward No. 28 of Batamaloo, near Tiny Hearts School in Tengpora.

The chargesheet, pertaining to FIR No. 06/2023 registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar, was presented before the Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, for judicial determination.

According to the ACB, the accused comprise seven SMC officials and three private individuals. The case involves allegations of abuse of official position, criminal conspiracy and extending undue benefits to private beneficiaries.

The case was registered following allegations that officials posted in Ward No. 28, Batamaloo, had abused their official positions and allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy with Reyaz Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Rahim Dar, a resident of Tengpora, Batamaloo.

The alleged conspiracy was aimed at facilitating and permitting illegal and unauthorised construction in the area near Tiny Hearts School, the ACB said.

The anti-corruption agency said its investigation was based on oral as well as documentary evidence, which it claimed substantiated the allegations against the accused government officials and private beneficiaries.

The accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Prevention of Corruption Act, the Ranbir Penal Code, the Registration of Documents Act and the Evacuees (Administration of Property) Act, according to the ACB.

The agency said the chargesheet was filed after obtaining the requisite government sanction for prosecution of the public servants involved in the case.

The matter will now be subject to judicial proceedings, where the allegations and evidence presented by the ACB will be examined by the competent court.
