Examiner Bureau | Rajouri:
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday underscored the strategic and symbolic importance of border villages, stating that a nation is truly defined by its remotest settlements where its borders begin and identity is reflected to the world.
Speaking at a public gathering during his visit to Sariah village in Rajouri district, the Lieutenant Governor said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, border areas are no longer perceived as the nation’s periphery but as its “first villages” and gateways of opportunity.
During the visit, Sinha inaugurated a Common Service Centre and launched several key development initiatives, including water conservation works under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSJB 2.0) and the development of playgrounds in Sariah, Pukharni, Bhawani, Chapardhara, and Namban villages. He also paid tributes to Brigadier Mohammad Usman for his contributions to the nation.
Highlighting the role of the Border Area Development Programme under the Vibrant Villages initiative, the Lieutenant Governor said the government is committed to ensuring that infrastructure and welfare schemes reach every household in border regions. He emphasized that development in these areas is directly linked to national security.
“A road to a border village builds not just connectivity but confidence in our defence system. Electricity brings not just light but hope, and employment transforms entire communities,” he said, adding that the vision is to make border villages among the most prosperous in the country.
Reflecting on his tenure since August 2020, Sinha noted that special focus has been placed on fulfilling the aspirations of people living in border areas. He highlighted improvements in connectivity, healthcare, digital infrastructure, and education, stating that residents now feel more integrated with the nation’s growth trajectory.
The Lieutenant Governor called upon officials to ensure 100 percent saturation of key government schemes, including HADP, Mission Youth, and PM Mudra Yojana, so that no eligible beneficiary is left out. He reiterated that inclusive development, dignity, and equal opportunity form the core of the Vibrant Villages Programme.
During the event, Sinha also visited departmental exhibitions, launched the Vibrant Village Anthem, and distributed sanction and appointment letters to beneficiaries under various schemes such as PMAY-G and Mission Yuva. He felicitated individuals for their contributions to social initiatives, including TB eradication and anti-drug campaigns.
Senior officials from the civil administration, police, and armed forces, along with political representatives and local residents, were present on the occasion, marking a significant step towards strengthening development and connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir’s border regions.
