Examiner Bureau | Srinagar:

The Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department has directed all government and recognised private schools across the Kashmir Valley not to conduct any in-house, internal or term examinations between June 23 and June 27 in view of Muharram observances and the large number of religious processions and Majlis scheduled during the period.

The announcement was made by Education Minister Sakina Itoo, who said the decision was taken following a request from Tanvir Sadiq and representations received from members of the public.

In a statement, the minister said the move aims to ensure that students do not face inconvenience due to traffic diversions, road closures and movement restrictions associated with Muharram processions and religious gatherings.

“This decision has been taken to ensure that students do not face difficulties due to traffic diversions and road closures and are able to participate in religious observances and academic activities without inconvenience,” Itoo said.

She added that all educational institutions have been instructed to strictly adhere to the directions and refrain from scheduling any examinations during the specified period.

Muharram processions and Majlis attract large gatherings across several parts of Kashmir, particularly in Srinagar and central Kashmir districts. The observances often result in traffic disruptions and restrictions on key routes, affecting the movement of students and the general public.

The minister further cautioned that any deviation from the directive or failure to comply with the instructions would be viewed seriously and could invite disciplinary action under the relevant rules.

The decision is expected to bring relief to students and parents, many of whom had expressed concern over examination schedules coinciding with major Muharram events and related restrictions.

The Education Department has urged all institutions to make necessary adjustments to their academic calendars to ensure smooth conduct of examinations after the notified period.
