Security agencies have heightened surveillance and launched an investigation after a drone was recovered in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, officials said on Tuesday.
According to officials, the drone was found near the Govindsar railway station road in the Hatli belt of the district on Monday night, triggering an immediate response from local police and security agencies.
“Last night, we received information that a drone had been spotted under the jurisdiction of Hatli police station. Immediately, our team reached the spot and seized the drone,” Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sunil Kesar told reporters.
Authorities have initiated a probe to determine the origin, purpose, and possible security implications linked to the drone.
“A thorough verification is being carried out to ascertain whether anything related to such an object is present in the surrounding area,” the officer said.
Officials said security forces are maintaining heightened vigilance in the region, particularly in view of the forthcoming annual Amarnath Yatra, one of the country’s largest religious pilgrimages.
Kesar stated that all security agencies remain on high alert and are working to gather every possible piece of information related to the incident.
The recovery comes amid continued security monitoring across border districts of Jammu and Kashmir, where drone sightings have previously raised concerns over cross-border smuggling and surveillance activities.
